What to specify when sourcing wide-width blackout curtain fabric

Start with usable width and the finished curtain dimensions, then agree how the fabric and the finished curtain will be assessed for light control.

Start with the usable width

Give the supplier the finished drop, panel width, seam allowance and whether the fabric will be turned across the roll. Request the usable fabric width for the quoted item and check the planned cutting direction against the sample.

Define the light-control requirement

Describe the intended space and tell the supplier whether you need an opaque fabric or a room-darkening fabric. If a result is required, state the agreed test method and acceptance threshold. Evaluate seams, edges and the installation separately when the project depends on room-level darkness.

Ask for care instructions with the sample

Confirm which side faces the room, the finishing or backing, and the cleaning and pressing instructions for the exact reference. Provide the order volume and destination so the factory can identify suitable samples and quote on the same basis.
